I’d rather have something big and comfy, rather than something light and sporty. Just a personal preference of mine, I like my comfort.

I’d rather have one of these than a Mustang.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Or one of these rather than a Camaro.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It’s a damn shame the full-size sedan is a dying segment, because it’s really the last place you can get a properly comfy, non-luxury sedan. Although there are a few midsizers that come close. Bring back ridiculous velour seats, too, because velour or really soft cloth is way comfier than leather.

I like to be comfortable, too. That’s why I have a bed an a chair to lounge in. :P

When it comes to driving, I want to be just comfortable enough that I don’t complain but not comfortable enough to fall asleep on the highway.

I’d rather something that does it all. Like... ‘96 Impala or CTS-V.

Something comfy, good for cruising, FAST, practical and relatively discreet.

Basically, factory sleepers.

That’s really the best of both worlds, something like a Jag XJR.

Kinja'd!!!

Because, don’t get me wrong, I like speed, but I want to be comfortable while going fast.

[Insert “Why not both?” meme]

But seriously, it doesn’t take a sports car, or brown manual diesel AWD wagon, to be an enthusiast.

I’m a sports car guy originally, but definitely working towards having a luxury car too. Being a parent means I’m not allowed more than one sports car—but that’s far better than not being allowed any. My current pipe dream is a late-model Acura RLX or Lexus LS460.

So are the MKS and LaCrosse your current car crushes?

I don’t think you’re alone otherwise the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT wouldn’t exist.

I’d like to have both but reality limits me from doing so. What I like to drive really depends on the roads: for a DD in the cracked, holed-up streets of Ottawa, I’d like something comfortable. I was in Vermont last week and roads around there would be tremendous fun in something small and light.

I think my ideal 2-car garage would be a Lexus LS and a NC/ND Miata.

I agree, I prefer wagons and sedans over sports coupes. Most coupes I prefer the sedan varient.

I love the huge luxobarges like the Lexus LS, Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series and such.

I can appreciate both, but if I was only given a choice for one I’d probably go with sporty. Even with a sports car as long as the seats are decent (Lexus RCF has the best bucket seats that fit me) I’m good. But with comfort you got a go all out.

I have trouble understanding why velour fell out of favor.

Sure, it’s hard to clean, but that’s not the point. The point is luxury, right? Luxury is often high-maintenance. And you can’t convince me that leather or alcantara is more comfortable than this.

As we are constantly reminded in Paper Jam , luxury used to be defined by making a car as much like a living room as possible. The old ads try to woo the customer with plush seats and even use the term “wall-to-wall-carpeting”. It seems to me that 1980s conversion vans were the ultimate form of passenger comfort.

The sad thing is that that’s almost true. It’s either the Windsor-Quebec corridor, the Lower Mainland of BC, or the Calgary-Edmonton corridor.

I understand this. What bugs me about so many cars today is that the backseat design is geared more towards 2 passengers than 3. In some cases, there is literally no middle spot.

I can see the end of our Passat ownership in the next 12-18 months, and I’m starting now to look at biggish cars to replace it. Most of the vehicles I see as appropriate replacements wouldn’t be as comfortable for the unlucky child who sits in the middle.

Interestingly, the more upmarket I look, the less I like what I see. This may actually force us to keep costs down on the replacement.

Edit: I realise that this comment has a tangential relationship, at best, to your post but it sure feels good to get that complaint off my chest...

I want both. ONe car that is pure luxury with no consideration to the thrill of driving, and another that gives zero consideration to comfort and is 100% about the experience of driving. And I’ll just drive one or the other depending on my mood.

You’re looking at it the wrong way. That’s extra storage! If you ever break down in the wilds of the Great White North, you can survive on the old french fries you find in the cushions until the Mounties can get to you. How can you not like comfy couch pillows?

I have two personalities living inside me. One is like you. He is the one who bought the Riviera I had as my last car. The other is the one who signed for the RX-8 I drive now and who wants a Miata next. Buick Guy has to console himself with road trips in the wife’s new Sedona, but he comes out to ooo and ahh at the big sedans too.

I like big comfy cars too. Sports cars have their place but it’s hard to argue against the practicality of driving something large and comfortable on a daily basis. What really pisses me off are the owners of said sports cars - when they tell you you’re less of an enthusiast then they are because your car isn’t a “driver’s car.” There are many definitions...

Kinja'd!!! not for canada - australian in disguise > Noah - Now with more boost.
03/22/2016 at 13:22

The term “driver’s car” is really an oxymoron, every car is a driver’s car, unless it’s an autonomous car.

Ah so...crossovers. Exactly the kind of car non-enthusiasts buy.

Tell me again how forgoing a sports car for a crossover is being as much an enthusiast as the guy who actually backs up his car enthusiasm with his wallet and car?

I partially agree with you, most of my cars have been big luxobarges.

But, I am just not a fan of any of the current Lincolns or Buicks. A Genesis Sedan or Equus, maybe even a 300, sure.
